Best Places to Relocate
If you haven't considered relocating to the Southwest,
now is a good time to do so, for the following reasons:
Higher Salaries
High numbers of retirees and extreme sports enthusiasts
flock to the Southwest to enjoy the mild winter climate, scenic
canyons, hiking, mountains, and winter sports, resulting in a population
that requires therapy services at a per capita ratio higher than
other U.S. regions. The result is a shortage of therapists in New
Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and west Texas, which means
that therapists working in this region can expect to make the highest
salaries in the nation. The average starting salary for a therapist
in the Southwest is over $60,000, plus relocation packages and sign
on bonuses. It is not unusual for experienced therapists to make
more than six figures in this region.
Low Cost of Living
Combine a high salary with a very low cost of
living, and your quality of life skyrockets. For example, if you
are currently living in Connecticut and making $60,000, you would
get $12,000 a year more value from that same money just by moving
to New Mexico, simply because the cost of living in New Mexico is
so much less than the cost of living in the Northeast. Check out
CNN's
cost of living calculator and run the numbers for your individual
scenario. You might be surprised what you discover.
Proximity to Entertainment and Events
Almost any city in the Southwest is a short drive
away from scenic hiking, skiing, snow boarding, rock climbing, or
a fabulous weekend in Las Vegas. There are six different ski resorts
in New Mexico alone. Alamogordo, New Mexico is only a 45 minute
drive from a snow boarding resort and an hour and a half from balmy
Mexico. Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone National Park
are also prime attractions in this area.
Friendlier Climate
There are a variety of land elevations in this
area, which means you can choose to live in a lower elevation with
mild winters while still being only a short driving distance
away from mountains, snow, and a variety of winter sports activities.
Or, if you just can't give up your snow-filled winters, relocate
to a higher elevation and just take a short drive down the mountain
if you get too cold.
Friendly People
The Southwest is famous for its friendly population.
Residents love the beautiful scenery, comfortable climate, spacious
real estate, and variety of entertainment, which all go a long way
toward boosting residents' general mood. Instead of rudely bumping into you on the street or in the subway, residents
of the Southwest are much more likely to smile and say hello.
